A Guide to the Pilates Studio

In Classical Pilates, we try to stay as close as possible to the original teachings of Jospeh and Clara Pilates. At Pilates & Horses, we take pride in using the best equipment in the industry, which will give our students the closest feel to original Pilates and the most feedback for an efficient workout. Please handle equipment with care. To us, it’s more than a piece of apparatus, but a training partner that we treat with respect.

Part of this method is that every student learns how to handle the equipment and how to perform the exercises independently. This way, you can also train at home on your own. You will learn how to switch springs, set up your equipment for every exercise safely, and proper cleaning methods.

Please follow the guidelines listed below so you can truly and fully enjoy your Pilates experience and receive the best benefit for yourself/ your body.

Pilates Etiquette:

  • Wear proper workout attire. Be prepared to sweat.

  • Refrain from wearing clothes with zippers or buttons. It can scratch the equipment.

  • Refrain from wearing jewelry. Not only can it scratch our equipment, it can also become a potential safety hazard for you.

  • Plan on arriving early to give yourself extra time to get prepared prior to your lesson.

  • Switch your phones to silent mode while in the studio.

  • No food is allowed in the studio area, but bring your water bottle – hydration is important!

  • The studio is a no-shoes area – please take your shoes off upon arrival.

  • Your feet are very important to the Pilates workout. In order to properly “feel” your feet, be prepared to either work out barefoot or with “sticky” socks (e.g. toe socks).

  • Clean up each piece of equipment after you use it. Set everything back to the way you found it – this way it’s ready for the next person to use.

  • We have a 24-hour late cancel policy. If you have to cancel or reschedule, please do so on time or we’ll have to charge a late cancel fee.
